HOUSTON, Texas--The unemployment rate in Texas recently fell to a new five-year low, according to new statistics from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. As business booms in the Lone Star State, many companies are in need of trained workers--most notably employers in the rapidly-expanding medical, gas, and oil fields.
It is easy to imagine why a variety of industries continue to grow in Texas, as the state has consistently been one of the best places to start and expand businesses. Vance Ginn, an economist at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, told Breitbart Texas, "What we've seen is that the Texas model of low taxes, modest government spending, and stable regulations provides a business-friendly environment that gives incentives for businesses to move to the state."
He pointed out that more Fortune 500 companies moving to Texas than any other state in the nation.
The only negative side of the boom? Many companies are having trouble finding qualified workers.
Traditional leading markets like Los Angeles see roughly 10 percent of the population often unable to find a job. But many Texas cities have the opposite problem....

We really need to de-emphasize the thought that everyone needs to go to college and emphasize trade schools more. We could easily follow the lead of other countries like Germany.

20 Years Ago: employers raised the wage, then more qualified workers showed up.
Today: employers import legal and illegal foreign workers, then, wages go down.
This is more true than most people realize. I worked in the oil & gas industry and one of my former positions is now requiring potential candidates to have their bachelor’s and preferably be a CPA. The funny thing is a monkey with an abacus could have performed that job.
There’s plenty of qualified candidates out there, however the truth is that employers are turning their collective noses up at those that don’t have a degree.

That obama is so smart. He knew this would happen and that is why he is bringing all those illegal kids so tey can go to school and get a job in the Texas oil fields.
You know Americans just will not do some jobs.
Yeah, especially those that pay $50 - 200,000 a year with a high school diploma/GED.
Today and for years in the oil/gas industry, wage have continued to rise quite well. We have our dips and downturns from time to time, but pay has always been good.
For experienced engineers/designers and the like, the pay can be very good.
Gotta ask: what sort of jobs?
I agree, oil and gas have always paid well.
My point is that when any employer claims he can’t get workers, the first issue to look at is pay.
If the pay goes high enough, that employer will have more qualified applicants than he can hire.
If the employer can’t afford the market rate for qualified applicants, then the employer should get out of that business.
Instead, most employers now call for importing cheap and obedient foreign labor.
When Senator Ted Cruz ran in 2012, he actually supported more work visas for Texas’ ranchers and farmers.
The problem is when an industry doesn’t have sufficient workers, and the companies just hire the same folks back and forth with dollar raises.
While it is nice for the paycheck while it lasts, it tends to be bad for the industry that quickly has to raise prices to cover costs, then shuts down the growth because the cost have gotten to high and the bottom falls out.
Far better in the long run is means of more steady growth, but that hasn’t been my experience very often, boom/bust and try to guess when each is happening and for how long.
