Why The Palestinians Have Better PR Than Israel
By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency
Jerusalem --- June 28, 2014 ... If you asked me this question a year ago or ten years ago, my knee jerk response would be money. The Palestinians and the Arab world have oil dollars, millions of them to make us look bad while slamming our towns and cities with rockets and missiles.
But the real answer is actually two fold.
Yes, money is one part. But we also have access to money.
The Palestinians (when I say the Palestinians it means the Arab world) are more creative than the Jews.
The Jews who dominate Hollywood and the media are being decimanted by Arab creativity.
Our PR sucks because the Israeli government does not retain professional PR or social media professionals. Just look at last week's Israel to the UN Mission press conference. Very few attended. It did not make major media. Less than 100 people viewed it on YouTube!
But when the Palestinians do something - they are truly great.
Just look at their creativity - flotilla ships to Gaza, powerful photoshopped pictures on Facebook, staged videos of "dead Palestinians" on YouTube, the chutzpa to walk into stores in Paris, by the hundreds, to demand boycotts and now - knowing no limit - the production of an elaborate opera openly illustrating their terrorism and anti-semitism.
An opera about such a horrific incident. The 1985 murder of a disabled Jewish American who was vacationing with his wife aboard the Achille Lauro cruise ship when Palestinian hijackers shot him in his wheelchair and threw him off the deck.
The Death of Klinghoffer was scheduled to run at the New York Metropolitan Opera.
And where are the Jews?
Where are the Israelis?
The Israelis are today putting out fires in southern Israel.
Fires in our towns and cities caused by Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror rockets. The Israelis are holding up signs saying: "free our boys". The Israelis are hitting Syrian military sites for attacking our northern border with missiles.
Israel is at war and just doesn't have the time for being media creative.
Take one step back.
We were at war in the 1960's yet that generation really knew how to respond. Transcending Abba Eban, Hollywood produced such greats as Exodus and Cast A Giant Shadow.
In the seventies we produced not one version but three of Entebbe.
We were not issuing news releases to a tired, biased media which does not care and to a public which has no time to read beyond the headlines.
Israel went where the people were. Where the public would spend hours focused on various issues. Israel went to the movies and to the stage. People love to be entertained and will actually turn off Facebook and Twitter for a good movie.
Today, the Palestinians are grabbing the stage. Don't we have any talented screenwriters? Can they not find funding from Sheldon Adelson and others?
Going to Haiti and Japan on humanitarian rescue missions to save hundreds is noble.
But a movie and a play are eternal.
Dim the house lights and win public opinion.
0bama and the MSM hate Israel.
With friends like Israel, who needs enemies?
With friends like Israel, who has the back of the US in blood, democracy and oil, you can sleep at night and worry less about another 9/11!
Israel employs today’s cutting edge PR tools including Facebook, Twitter, You Tube and a very effective group of home-grown sites and multi-media tools to get the truth out to deter the worst, most vile propaganda. Yet, Israel can not
combat the worst PR weapon of them all;Antisemitism.
Huh? You’ve not been around long but that’s not going to be tolerated around here.
It disturbs me that any disagreement with Bibi’s agenda is somehow “Anti-Semitism”. American Conservatives are sick of political correctness, and certain issues being somehow “off-limits”. The truth is that Americans find truth refreshing.
I am absolutely not “anti-Semitic”, but I do resent the fact that Israel pushes us into pointless wars for their benefit. If that gets me banned so be it, it won’t change the truth.
This site is pro Israel. When speaking your mind be aware of that fact.
It’s all “window dressing” with the Palestinians ... and ... that does fit perfectly in with our “window dressing world” that we live in (sound bites and faked pictures). They’re winning the PR-war because they lie so well. And the world loves wonderfully-crafted lies!
Ummm ... how did you, as an Israel-hater (and thus a Jew-hater), get on this forum?!
I won’t push Israel or the Jews into the ocean, but I would push you ...
Which war did Israel push us into?
Or should I say, which pointless wars did Israel push us into?
Please name one war Israel pushed us into.
I am not a hater of Israel, I disagree with many of it’s policies though, especially when they lobby for the US to shed the blood of it’s own on their behalf. I wish Israel well.
That’s a standard Liberal tactic, to paint anyone you disagree with as a “bigot” and therefore discredit them. Conservatives aren’t falling for that anymore, you need a new tactic!
I asked my liberal Jewish friend to explain to me why the Left turned on Israel and the Jews. She said that it went back to the 6 day war. When Israel and the Jews were weak, the left loved them (well, not the Soviets, but that’s not what we were discussing); once they got strong, that love affair was over.
But the Left, whom they love, whom they hate, it never makes sense to me.
The way they defend the Muslims astounds me; those people would cut their heads off given half a chance, but it’s kumbayah all the time.
Liberalism truly is a mental disorder.
You’re no more of a hater of Israel than is Ron Paul or Pat Buchanan ... :-) ...
But I won’t have anything to do with either one of them. You’re in the same category.
Pat Buchanan rocks! Ron Paul is a little crazy, but I voted for his son (he’s one of my Senators). Diverse opinions strengthen our republic. If you can’t tolerate dissent, you aren’t much of an American.
LOL ... I thought so ... :-) ...
AND ... as I’ve posted elsewhere on Free Republic ... Rand Paul is the NUT that didn’t fall far from the tree.
Liberalism should be in the DSM as a mental disorder. It’s primarily comprised of the delusion that someone else’s property is your own.
“when I say the Palestinians it means the Arab world”
Money quote! It’s not just the `poor little mistreated Palis’, it’s the four hundred million strong twenty-two nation sized Arab League that makes up the Arab World (and the Palestinian Authority is one of them).
Israel’s Jewish population is about seven million.
400 million Arab Muslims steeped in a culture of Jew-hatred that is the very core of their religion, versus seven million Jews......
Would someone please do the freaking MATH!!!?
Illuminating insight. Thanks for sharing.
The liberal/Marxo/fascist/progressives have always been anti-semites. They hate Jews and always have. It is a mystery why American Jews vote in such large numbers for them.
( No. I did not read the article but will now.)
The liberal/Marxo/fascist/progressives WHO CONTROL THE MEDIA AND ACADEMIA FROM PRE-K THROUGH GRADUATE SCHOOL have always been anti-semites. They hate Jews and always have. It is a mystery to me why American Jews vote in such large numbers for them. ( No. I did not read the article but will now.)
Truth isn’t bigoted.
It’s pretty easy to have great PR when you have the mainstream media working for you pro-bono.
Everyone loves the underdog. Everyone sympathizes with a victim. The PLO is expert at making themselves victims. With all the billions they have been given over the decades their “leadership” will never let anyone be successful. It’s bad for the image.
Listen up slick; it might be best if you went back to the DU where you belong.
Well that explains everything, your just another idiot Paulista.
I don't mind that he shows up, long as he doesn't stay...
The tactic of claiming that any dissent implies bigotry is wearing thin. There are an enormous number of Americans who are fed up with that assertion. They are truly through with it, to be honest.
You can call me an anti-Semite, which is demonstrably untrue, but you run the risk of desensitizing people to the term itself. It may soon mean nothing if “anti-Semitism” simply means disagreeing with someone’s political position.
Disagreeing with Bibi does not make me a “Jew-Hater”. It’s a disgusting Liberal tactic to paint opposition as bigotry. Those who engage in it should be called out for the authoritarians they are.
Israel’s biggest problem is that liberals and democrats hate Jews. So long as that is true, it will be hard to get the truth out when it would help Israel and easy to get harmful stories on the front page even if they are staged or fictional.
