This is the only time in 20 years that the NRA didn’t fold and concede anything to the gun grabbing crowd. I think it has more to do with the growth of 2nd amendment groups like GOA and others. The NRA saw many of it’s members leaving to join these other groups. The NRA’s stance here was likely more about money and membership than conviction.
I left the NRA after they folded on the so called assault weapons ban in 94.

Had this topic come up in a family conversation recently. The point was made that there can be no complete RKBA victory, because of the nature of the NRA as a beltway insider organization. If the struggle ends/tips in our favor, then the cash flow would be impacted.
