Probably because their idea of violence is a slap-fight over the last "perfect" pair of shoes at the local Neimann-Marcus.
Contrast that with, say, the folks who showed up combat loaded and ready for action to help out at the Bundy Ranch earlier this year. The latter would frighten the former away with a simple look.
