The 4th of July three-day weekend starts tomorrow. For many Americans, especially our fellow FReepers.. it'll be a well needed respite from the real world. Many will hit the beach, or a ball game, see a parade, watch fireworks. For a lot of us...it means grilling...cooking meat the way it was intended to be cooked, OUTDOORS..with lots of awesome sides. So, if that's in your plans ( or even if you're just thinking about it) feel free to share ideas, recipes, rubs..
Give me a little while to make sure Hubby is up and has coffee. I’m at work. Recipe is at home. I got it from Hubby’s godmother. Spent her entire life in the south (Florida & Alabama). Great lady. We lost her earlier this year.
Clear a place, I’m coming over!
Best corn on the cob is to butter up after cooking, squeeze limes over the top, coat thoroughly, and then sprinkle on Tony Charchere’s.
Great post. Happy 4TH Everyone.
Nope, no grilling. Arthur has other plans for the Outer Banks.
I’m sorry, but cooking a filet mignon to medium well should be a crime.
Combine 2 1/2 lb shredded cabbage, oz fresh spinach snipped into 1/8" pieces, 1 1/2 c Sweet Cream Dressing. Chill till nice and cold.
Sweet Cream Dressing: Whisk smooth 1-1/2 c mayo, tb+ 1-1/2 tea HalfnHalf, 2-1/4 tea vinegar, tb+1-1/2 tea sugar, Pinch black pepper.
BBQ rub:
1 cup salt
1/2 cup pepper
1/2 cup paprika
Rub meat the day before and keep in cooler.
Brown one large onion in one stick melted butter. Add one bottle of Italian dressing, juice from four lemons, one cup vinegar, 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce and one beer. Cook until mixture is hot.
that’s a keeper..f’sure..
I’ve made it....comes out great every time..
Try adding about 1/2 tsp fennel seeds to the recipe..
Big Kahuna Burgers with a Tiki theme (if you can get the decor). “That is a tasty burger.”
2lbs hamburger (recommended 80/20)
4 tbs teriyaki marinade (recommend La Choy Hawaiian style)
6 pineapple slices (to be grilled)
6 slices of provolone
1 pkg large buns (ideally King’s Hawaiian, if you can get them. But other large buns will do.)
Optional condiments:
lettuce, purple onion, tomato, sliced pickled jalapeno, peperoncini or banana pepper.
Big Kahuna Secret Sauce
3/4 cup each ketchup and brown sugar
1 tbs Dijon mustard
Simmer all ingredients until sugar is melted and fully blended. It is sweet but works very well.
Marinate hamburger for at least 20min in teriyaki sauce.
BBQ grill both burgers and pineapple slices then melt cheese over burger before serving.
My preferred condiments are just purple onion and tomato.
Any kind of cold soda is good as a tasty beverage, but for adults, Mai-Tais just rock. Along with the Tiki decor, Hawaiian shirts are de rigueur.

Other genres that are good include Space Age Bachelor Pad.
Buffalo burgers are great. Sounds yummy.
We are prolly having beef burgers cooked on gas. I like to use 85/15 meat for the grill. All I do is mix one packet of dry onion soup mix, some garlic and black pepper in my meat, form it into patties and slap it on the grill. Never fails me.
That sounds good. I like that combo.
Guess it is a regional offering——supermarkets on the East Coast carry it.
Oh, my husband used to buy it in Colorado. Well, thanks.
Super Cole Slaw
1 large head cabbage
1 large onion
3 carrots
1 large green bell pepper
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup cider vinegar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 Tbsp. salt
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. celery seed
Shred cabbage in bowl, layer shredded onion, carrots, and bell pepper. Sprinkle sugar over top. DO NOT STIR. Bring other ingredients to a boil. Pour over cabbage while hot. Refrigerate overnight. Do not stir until ready to serve.
Cilantro. Hmm, I’m out.
Thank you very much. I’ll be serving this at our community party..
