Y'don't ban a language, but'cha' DO ban a Spanish only class or school in the US.

Bi-lingual in the first 4 or 5 years ONLY to teach English which will be the only language spoken from that point on.

Will they be slower students because they spent 4 or 5 years learning English ?

Yup ... and tough jit about that ... the parents should have encouraged English (and perhaps learn(ed) it too)

I remember dating a luscious Puerto Rican girl back in the 60's that lived with a million aunts who spoke no English and I had to get their approval of me after the first date ... (we never had a second)

There was never a problem or social discussion about people that spoke no English back then because all the kids spoke English.
