FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Germany's pilots' union criticized a decision by Air Berlin and Lufthansa to resume flights to Israel, ending a ban imposed in response to fears that rockets fired from the Gaza Strip may hit aircraft.

Lufthansa and Air Berlin said they will resume flights to Israel's Ben Gurion Airport on Saturday, the same day a 12-hour humanitarian truce agreed by Israel and Hamas began.

Shown to be fools, thinking they are wise. With their fathers’ and uncles’ histories you would hope they would be more reflective of their inherited guilt.

Poor little German pilots with your GPS and doppler radar, autopilots, redundant avionics, jet engines, and pressurized, climate-controlled cabins. And something might go "boom" a mile or two from the runway! Flying can be so scary these days!

You would be the first one to barf if the Captain flew close to a thunderstorm. Flying is a cruel mistress laddie. She rarely allows you one mistake. The pilots are thinking not only of themselves but also the 300 or more souls entrusted to their care who have no say so about what happens between take off and landing. 30000 accident free hours speaking here sonny and proud of it.

Bull. I care about my passengers too. I am an A320 captain at the world’s largest airline. This is pure politics. My airline was back in LLBG the moment the ban was lifted, and our pilot union fully supported the return.

Danger is in the eye of the beholder. Israel has gone to war to wipe out the rocket launches. Seems some are more dangerous than others.

Ja, but dat Fokker vas flyink a Messerschmidt.

Crossing airspace over territories in which irregular forces have rockets of one kind and another is never a good idea. One ill-disciplined squad of Worthy Oriental Gentlemen whose antihelminthic drugs are not working that day may decide to take a shot with or without orders and get lucky.

Of course, the Israelis can take care of that before it happens by resettling Gaza. If they need labor, I suppose Team Obama can supply them with illegal aliens who will do the work Arabs seem loathe to do (which IIRC, is any work at all).

BTW, The PLO, HAMAS, The Saudis, etc. have enough money to buy every Arab Man Woman, Child, Goat, and Camel living in Israel a ranch in Brazil, or any other country that likes Muslims. Yassir Arafat alone left an estate of 9 Billion POUNDS in England.

I am quite sure that Israel can get along just fine without any Lufthansa flights from Germany.
I assume that Germany also will not allow any el Al flights from Israel to Germany, either.
