A suburban Chicago police officer has been fired after the shooting death of a family dog that has outraged a small community. Witnesses say an officer from the Hometown Police Department shot and killed the dog in front of its owners.

On Monday, Eyewitness News spoke with the family who lost their pet.

Alexis Gamino loves animals, but is especially fond of her dog, Apollo, a 14-month old German shepherd-pit bull mix.

LEOs are shooting dogs, when we have this chaos on the border. Make friends.... make enemies.... Observers are watching.

Filth-bag shoots pet, gets fired, no pension. Perhaps sanity is beginning to prevail. I hope.

Horribly written article.

Yeah, they don't even mention the name of the officer. The police officer who shot and killed a 6-year old girl's dog in front of her has been identified as ROBERT NORRIS =>

I had to read it two or three times - did the dog fall on the floor, did the little girl fall on the floor? I didn’t even understand how the dog really got out of the house...

Perhaps it could use a little sprucing up at that, but the main point is that Robert Norris, the Illinois police officer who shot and killed a little girl's dog in front of her, has been fired.

Not according to the reason.com link.

“ABC7 identified the police officer only as a 15-year-veteran of the force. Forsyth told me this morning he would not be releasing the name of the fired officer but also said there is no built-in arbitration or appeals process for the now ex-cop to turn to. He suggested the officer, like any employee fired by his employer, could launch a lawsuit if he wanted, but confirmed that the officer was no longer with the department and would not be drawing a pension.”

Good.

More cops need to be fired and lose their pensions. They are out of control and need to be reined in.

The fees for the family to adopt another dog from the local shelter should be waived or paid for by the fired officer.

There are several badgelickers on FR that would argue otherwise...........

He threatened to arrest them if they tried to take the shot dog to the vet, too. Blocked their car with his in their driveway and refused to move it. No authority at all for that - any threat that he claimed the dog made was clearly neutralized by the shooting. He just wanted the dog... evidence... dead.

This is some sick sh*t.
