Illegal immigrants living in the most populous city in the United States will soon be able to obtain identification cards needed to access government services and other benefits. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the criteria for the municipal ID card Friday while reassuring the public that the program would protect against identification fraud.
To prevent fraud, applicants must present proof of identity, including foreign passports and birth certificates, and New York City residency. The cards will be printed on polycarbonate card stock and will include an embedded hologram, the applicant's signature and a secondary, black and white "ghost" photo of the applicant.
Government officials hope they will soon be able to keep better track of who lives in New York City under the ID program. Roughly half of all New York City residents over the age of 16 don't have state driver's licenses.

I thought identification papers were racist.
My guess is illegal lawbreaking aliens aren’t going to be eager to sign up for legitimate ID and be taxed.

LOL, I had the same thought. My God, I think picking someone out of a phone book to run for elective offices might fare better than the idiots who spends thousands and millions to run and win these positions.
All ready to vote in the next election.
De Blasio will undoubtedly ensure they can and do vote in 2016.
The benefits will far outweigh any taxes.
Illegals who drain the welfare system are treated like honored guests and offered a range of benefits, yet that city will bring the weight of the law down onto a guy reselling cigarettes which he very likely had already bought.
Too bad for Eric Garner he couldn’t convince the NYPD’s taxation enforcement goon squad he was a Mexican border jumper. He’d have been pardoned on the spot, given an ID, and a kiosk in a location of his choice.

That means they don’t have liability insurance, too. How do the autos get registered each year by someone without a DL?
Seems NYC is lawless unless it concerns someone not paying the ridiculous imposed taxes.
