I think we may have a candidate for the coveted “CBS Dan Rather Fake But Accurate Award”. It appears that Williams has achieved that break with reality and reason necessary to believe his own BS as real.
In watching reruns of Williams telling his self-promoting lie to Letterman (himself a towering pile of steaming dog crap), it strikes me as odd that Brian would TELL the story in such an offhand, nonchalant way, with a wave of his hand and a swashbuckling Errol Flynn flair, smiling all the while. And THAT in and of itself pegged MY B.S. meter!
