WHY ARE WE "NEGOTIATING" WITH IRAN ANYWAY?

Never accept the premise of your opponent's argument.

Does anyone else see what's going on here?

We are negotiating with Iran. A long-time enemy of the United States.

So, why has the debate been reduced to arguing over what the proper role of the Senate is?

The Senate has the power to approve or reject treaties.

Do you think this is a treaty? Do you think what the Obama administration is doing, is using the whiteboard and breaking out PowerPoint, with their sleeves up, hard-bargaining with their Iranian counterparts through the night, and hammering out some type of "deal" that will best represent the concerns of Americans, and then cheerfully present it to the Senate?

How many Republicans have stepped up and said Obama is talking with our sworn enemy who held American hostages for 444 days and who may have masterminded the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing that killed 241 of our finest?

No, instead they're t

WELL ... we’re negotiating with Iran today, because Bush didn’t bomb the heck out of them when he had the chance!

any so-called agreement with Iran would have to include at a minimum Iran’s APOLOGY and hopefully some sort of restitution for taking over our embassy and the hostages for 444 days. So Mr. Obama — surely you have this in your agreement, right?

Republicans might find sending a letter to Iran’s leaders more effective then debate with Democrats.

Obama decided three years ago that a nuclear armed Iran was not a threat to the United States and Israel. He accepted the leftist argument that Iran, which had suffered 850,000 causalities after being invaded by Iraq, had a legitimate strategic argument to obtain some nuclear armaments. Its a fact that no nuclear armed country, most recently Pakistan and India, has experienced a large conventional invasion , lost territory or been forced into an unfavorable peace. He also accepted the argument that the harsh anti-Israel rhetoric was designed to seize the mantle of Islamic leadership and silence Sunni critics who would be opposed to a nuclear armed Iran. Obama of course could not just announce that he was changing long standing policy toward Iran or was abandoning the policy of non proliferation. He simply knew he would not go to war and began to open communications with Iran. He stopped sanctions without any real Iranian concessions. The Iranians and Netanyahu immediately understood. Needless to say Netanyahu was aghast and feels betrayed. He does fear a nuclear armed Iran and does not view the mullahs as rational partners or harmless. Netanyahu will be tormented for the rest of his life that he failed to take definitive action against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and regime when he had the power to do so. History will compare him to the German Jewish leaders in the 1920’s that had the power and means to terminate Hitler and his thugs but tragically failed to do it. Obama’s deal will ultimately be reviewed by the US Senate, the media and historians. Even if it is a laughingstock and ridiculed no action will be taken against Iran for the balance of his Presidency. The heavy water plant will remain functional and the centrifuges will keep spinning. The mullahs will get their nuclear weapons and won’t care at that point who is President or who controls Congress. If one hundred years from now Iran is never invaded and never uses its nuclear weapons , Obama will be judged clever, courageous and effective. If however the “death loving “ mullahs fire their new weapons, the strategic mistake will have monumental consequences. If history is still being written ,the name Obama will be a cursed word.
