If you seek/love gold, don’t complain when God gives you the task of filling potholes in heaven!

I notice these cessationists don't quote the new testament to back their opinions. Give me one that says prophecy or miracles won't ever happen.

Anytime somebody says God has spoken to me and has given me a word, has given me a new revelation, has given me a prophecy, that you automatically write that person off as a false teacher as a false prophet. And we could talk for an hour at least about how God does or does not speak to people. "Hebrews 1:1,2 pretty clear: God long ago spoke through the fathers in the prophets in many portions in many different ways, but in these last days has spoken to us in His Son Jesus who is the final speaking of God."

Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Thought Hebrews was written to the Jews that to persuade them to the identity of Christ. I'm not reading any more. The guy is disgruntled.

Act 21:9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. Act 21:10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. Act 21:11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

It is one thing to believe the Canon of Scripture has been completed. It is another thing to claim God the Holy Spirit is no longer active in our present sanctification, which I believe is a false position.

Different believers are given different spiritual gifts.

Most believers don’t know what are their spiritual gifts.

While the spiritual gifts of apostleship were recognized prior to the completion of the Canon of Scripture, a well supported doctrine of cessationism holds that particular Spiritual gift is longer given.

This might be true, but if God seeks to use a believer to perform something by His Plan, why should we attack that relationship and how God decides to implement His Plan?

Obviously God doesn’t violate His own Will, so it is proper to test all things by His Word and by sound doctrine.

Scripture and the Word of God is veritable, but He is also a Living God. Too many cessationists don’t even know their own spiritual gifts and fall into the trap of legalism demanding God will not communicate except by prior written texts. The spiritual gifts of pastor-teacher and evangelism are both spiritual communication gifts whereby the person in fellowship and with that gift is spiritually given perception to communicate the Gospel in a fashion unique to the believer audience or unbeliever (in the case of evangelism). God might very well speak to those believers.

It should also be noted that the doctrine of efficacious grace also is developed, recognizing all people are unbelievers before they become believers. The initial understanding of the spirit only happens at the Will of God the Father and exercised by God the Holy Spirit to glorify the Son. It is a spiritual event. It is perceived only by what God provides. If the person receives it and rejects the Son, then that person is not afforded another chance. It isn’t just a soulish event. So yes, God still speaks to people, but some, if not many, simply are too scarred in their souls to identify it clearly.

Many are interrupted or distracted by other things, simply ignoring what He Provides for us in all things. While we may study Him by His Word, He also wants us to pray without ceasing and remain in fellowship with Him in all things.

If He chooses to speak to somebody, then Hallelujah rejoice He is engaged in active fellowship.

(Just remember, many cases where He so gets involved might be disciplinary or grace before discipline, so those who are so addressed, aren’t necessarily getting ahead, but He also directly gets involved every time we study His Word while in fellowship with Him by God the Holy Spirit.)
