Since 2006, each team brings its own selection of footballs to the game. New England brings theirs; Baltimore brings theirs. And when the offense changes, so does the ball. And vice-versa.

That makes no sense.

It does if the NFL wants to give the offense any possible edge, no matter how small or large the actual effects on the field might be. Just as long as the average fan doesn’t get riled up about it. Same for not simply checking inflation on play balls during some of the million commercial breaks during the game. NFL ball protocol would be set up way differently otherwise, its a multi billion dollar industry with huge numbers of casual fans. To the casual fan, generally scoring = excitement.
