I lived in Japan for a few years back in the Sixties, and...it was culture shock, but I thought it was a very interesting place.

Hahaha...starting off with the open sewers and the toilets that were holes in the ground that you squat over...that was a trip for a nine year old kid!

They do have some very, very strange things, though.

I always thought the Brony thing was goofy. I suppose it still might be, but my thoughts have changed since a year ago.

At my son’s college campus a guy with a shotgun entered a building and started shooting. One student was killed with a shot to the base of the head. Several others were injured.

However, as he reloaded, a hero (student) jumped up, sprayed him with pepper spray and tackled and subdued him. On the hero’s facebook page it showed he was a fan of My Little Pony! (Also lots of fan posts of martial arts and tactical weapons!)

Anyway - since seeing that I give the “Bronys” a pass.

Admittedly Bronycon is not my thing. That goes a bit further than I’m willing to go.

Again, though, to each their own.

What really, really irks me is this magnifying glass that FReepers establish on the tiny minority of freaks, which exist in Every. Single. Group. Of. People.

This is a media tactic, and its a pretty disgusting low.

There was one dumping all over it, but was a fan of Walking Dead. I offered to respond with necrophiliac fans of said show.

I never in a million years thought I would watch the Walking Dead, but one night, looking for something to watch on Netflix, watched the first episode.

I have always been a bit of a sucker for apocalyptic movies where everyone is dead but one person (Like “The Omega Man”) and I ended up watching the whole season. I lost interest after that.

I did find the concept of using zombies as a prop to drive themes kind of interesting. Kind of a lazy way to do it, but interesting.

FReeper goes to bestiality S&M con and suddenly realizes he’s beating a dead horse.

I wasn’t trying to insult the guy. I just realized that “My sister watching My Little Pony in the 80’s” was probably the only relevant thing I mentioned. I got off topic when I mentioned Dukes of Hazard, and Benny Hill.

Previous generation ponies have nothing on the current version.

I hated the older ones when I was young. I even tried to watch them now. Still can’t stand them.

This is different.

You went to Baltimore? Is it even safe there? There was an article just this week saying they were up to their 200th murder this year already.

Well obviously after that many they don't need to kill any more.

I can't know for sure, but this guy has a '98 sign up date. I think he's a bit past 25.

25? I wish! I'm almost twice that!

Folks, You want to know what appeals to people about this cartoon? Innocence. The innocence that a lot of shows used to have and that can no longer be found on TV. It’s really that simple. The innocence LIFE used to have.

There are hundreds of shows that malign decent human/ conservative values. There is no moral ambiguity in shows like this. There is no gratuitous sex or violence. As long as they are not cutting the heads off of Christians, torturing small animals or killing babies, live and let live.

I suppose it might be possible that he is so pure of heart, he has utterly no idea what he’s wading in the midst of.

Actually I knew exactly what I was getting into. I've been to a number of brony events and there is always a spirit of joy and friendship. Put 10,000 of these people together and it becomes downright exuberant!

It is just...well...strange to me. How did it all come about? I feel like an alien on my own planet sometimes.

Hasbro decided to create a new generation of its old My Little pony cartoon and had Lauren Faust, a woman who had grown up playing with the original MLP ponies and had worked on cartoons like The Power Puff Girls and Fosters Home for Imaginary friends. Rather than make a typical crappy girls cartoon she created a show with complex, relatable characters and good storytelling. When the show premiered in 2010 it unexpectedly created a buzz on websites like 4Chan and snowballed into a massive fandom.

I’m all for “live and let live.” That doesn’t mean others can’t have opinions or even criticize. You like a cartoon with imagery aimed towards little girls. Don’t be surprised if you get laughed at a bit.

If you go to conventions and dress up in costumes patterned on a cartoon with imagery aimed towards little girls don’t be surprised if people question your masculinity.

Hell we all like Bugs Bunny and RoadRunner. And the lest we forget, Rabbit dressed in drag hitting on Elmer. Kids laughed because it was funny. Adults laugh because Elmer is having some pretty unkidlike thoughts and doesn’t realize he’s headed for a homo hangover ;)

When that cartoon came out how many adult men dressed up like Bugs Bunny in Drag?
