No, certainly not you; I was making reference to a book I read many years ago as a young man.
The book kind of describes the result that could very possibly happen if the ragheads decided to get froggy with the Israelis with their new found ally, the Soviets.
To me Putin is nothing but an unreconstructed Soviet thug.
The book describes life in the world after a limited nuclear war, just how far back civilization could be pushed.
If the ragheads decide to start a war with Israel because they think Putin gives them the upper hand, they just might find themselves on the losing end of the “salt trade”.
Your use of the word “ALAS” just made the memory of that book pop into my head.
I certainly meant no offense to you, it’s just that that word is not commonly used any more.
The title of the book was ALAS BABYLON; don’t remember the authors name, but the book impressed me. As a kid who had an addiction to science fiction, it left an impression.

Take a look at my profile page. I named myself after the book! I used to be assigned to Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado, then a Space and Missile Warning phased-array RADAR, and then in Woomera, Australia, and very much thought the topic of the book would one day occur.
While the Cold War as we know it is over, as you point out, circumstances change, and here we are almost again.
