I think there’s a little more to it than defending Christianity. Even those that are not Christian certainly do not want invading hoards to murder, rape and subjugate them.
I think they remember their history. I don’t think they have been victorious in anything for over a hundred years. Bashed by the Germans, made into a slaughter horror house by the Nazis, trampled by the Soviets, then under Soviet rule for decades.
They just love their freedom. They are not suicidal.
Considering this is coming from Merkel, a kraut, it’s like pouring salt into a wound.
