I don’t understand why it is ‘illegal’ to schools or local governments to say anything about an upcoming vote.

It seems like an attempt to keep voters ignorant.

Under the bill now heading to Snyder's desk (Senate Bill 571), doing what those districts did within 60 days of an election would earn a fine of up to $1,000 for an individual and $20,000 for a municipality.

Oh the irony... either way the taxpayers take it in the shorts! If the "municipality" violates the law who pays the $20K fine?
