I personally support skilled labor immigration if the vetting is careful and the employer pays the government for its investigation cost.

I did not want too much vetting of him if he never made it this high, but now he’s there. He must be vetted.
For example, Goldman Sachs. A very corrupt corporation. But also a fixture in our economy. Tainted, but arguably acceptable donation.
We must view this from the eye of a democrat campaign strategist — what would the uninformed voter think? And how will Cruz react?
