Our rescue does not normally bring in German shepherds from out of state because on the average there are 125 GSDs on a given day that need to be rescued or adopted in southern CA alone. Between five GSD rescues only half are saved, the rest killed.
Westside GSR of Los Angeles does out of state adoptions. Transportation cost averages $1500 per dog.

That is terrible. I know the Eskie rescuers get a little panicky when one winds up in certain shelters there. I’m on the national list but haven’t kept up with it in several years.
I’m surprised California isn’t more successful with no-kill.
That’s crazy. Everyone here, that I know of, seeks donations from the sending &/ or receiving rescues & that’s it. Usually, it’s just whatever it takes to get them out of the shelter. Less than or at most, $100. Unless S/N is involved.
