So you can’t have the president & vice president from the same state? First time I have heard that. I understand the whole “balancing the ticket” approach, but that is a strategy.

article II:

“The electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.”

Of course P & VP were voted on independently back then. It’s - complicated. But to simplify things, most VPs have been from other states, or registered in other states.

We don’t any more complications this cycle than we already have.
