As I've gotten older, I've gotten better at detecting when someone is in denial. And when that's the case, it's best to just move on and not waste your time or words trying to convince them of anything.
Of course, we all go into denial at times, so it's not like I haven't ever been there myself. But sadly, some folks never seem to come out of it. :(

Trump has attacked at a personal level EVERY opponent as they got traction, Carson, Fiorina, Christie, Cruz (birther play, Rubio and now Cruz again.
I lived in the NY Metro area Trump has been doing this sort of stuff for 30 years. It is his SOP.

As I’ve tried to tell others, he’s just a parrot repeating phrases that he’s heard others make, and thinks that his repetition will demonstrate his political astuteness and ideological purity. And when he hasn’t an answer, which is often, he responds with juvenile cat-calling. His new pejorative is “trashytrump”, and like a 4 year old hearing a new word he’ll use it every chance he gets. If you doubt me, look at his posting history. To his credit at least he spells it the same way every time. I suppose he feels if he says it enough he will appear witty as well as intelligent.
