My theory is that because girls only compete with males in settings where they are on a real (school/classroom) or created (business) equal footing with males, coupled with the constant “warrior princess” portrayals they see, that they don’t even realize anymore how much stronger and more physically explosive and violent men are than them, to say nothing of the psychological and chemical/hormonal differences that make men all-around better warriors. Of course, males boots will be expected to “play fair,” and males will pick up princess’s slack on deployments, and GI Jane might no be forced to stare reality in the face until it’s already too late.
