For sake of discussion both of the officers I investigated, sadly, were black officers.
Generalized statements like “bad cops” need to be clarified. What exactly is meant by that? Is the behavior they are engaged in really “bad” or is it an opinion?
I’ve been in the same situation as you. This “blue wall of silence” crap is a meme that Hollyeood has perpetuated in movies to the point that the general population believes it.
I’ve seen a few cases where misbehavior has been tolerated, in some cases for years, when the miscreant is a favorite of someone in a command position or, ahem, a member of a ‘fraternal’ organization (NOT the FOP) but serious criminality eventually drew the appropriate penalty.
The problem with many of the cases of recent media interest is the ignorance of most people regarding use of force issues and the cynical exploitation of that ignorance by media figures and political demagogues. (But I repeat myself.)
I’m now retired from law enforcement and glad of it.
