It’s not an option because she doesn’t have the signatures to be on the ballot in any state.

She can’t enter the race at this late date even if Hillary dies.

This line of thinking has the exact same mental substance as the question of whether or not Wolverine could beat Thor.

It doesn't matter whose name is on the Dem part of the ballot. That's not how the Electoral College system works. On November 8, you are not voting for a candidate, you are voting for a slate of electors, who will be casting the REAL vote for President on December 19.

If Hillary steps down, voters will be told to still pull the lever for Hillary, but her electors will be pledged to whoever the DNC picks to replace her.

I know of no state that requires signatures for major party candidates. That’s the requirement for independents. There are plenty of problems replacing a candidate this late, but that’s not one.

We actually vote for electors, not the candidate. As long as a party has its electors in order in a state it is on the ballot.

They said that about Lautenberg in NJ also, but alas he was “elected” again.

Who makes and enforces the rules...Don't count on Congress...

If this happens, the courts will rule that “Voters are voting for the Democrat Ticket, not specific candidates” and let her through.
But I see Kaine as the only possible replacement replacement on the ballot for Hillary!.
Michelle might be in line for VP, if she wants it.
