Wondered where all the gurl power crap came from.
Same thing, every movie:
Firefly — superweapon girl
Buffy — super girl, super witch girls, then lots of super girls. Men are either evil or ineffective.
Angel, female co-lead gets super powers
Angents of shield. Male lead ineffective everyman. Females: superfighter, superhero, and superbrainiac
It’s old and boring.
I’m with you. My love for movies or TV shows can swiftly turn to absolute hate. When Smallville (not a great show) went full left in its final season, I never wanted to watch the preceding seasons ever again. There have been a lot of shows like that.
You simply are not the market.
These vehicles are designed to get the $ and attendance of teenagers and a few of us who will give most science fiction at least a chance. I’m pretty sure most YA dystopians are aimed at 30-year-old SAHMs, although I’ve seen reviews from confessed 60-something men.
I don’t care for Buffy, but hundreds of millions of teenage girls revere it. Boys watch because she’s hot and because they want to be with the girls. Firefly’s popularity may have taken the producers by surprise. But then, again, it didn’t get renewed. In Agents of Shield, I felt Phil manned up somewhere along the way. They began to butch him up over time.
Anyway, these sorts of releases are done by committee/teams and they try and nail their target market pretty early. It’s all just mind candy, anyway. Sometimes we all need that 45 minutes or so of unreality.
Thanks for the background.
This guy doesn’t make the sbtf List.
5.56mm
That saddens me.
Okay, I had to go google that ad. Nathan Fillion only spoke two words and didn’t say anything stupid, so I’ll give him a bit of a pass. The whole ad was nauseating, though.
Never seen Firefly but I loved Fillion in Castle.
Actually, I do love SciFi/Fantasy.
But they’re all gurl power things now.
Even the new Star Wars. Buffy the Sith Slayer goes to space.
Rogue One appears the same.
Resident Evil — hot chick, saves world (about 10 times)
Hunger games — ineffective male baker, saved by chick, who saves the world
Batman v. Superman, saved by Wonder Woman
Etc.

Moral: Men bad, women good.
He’s been blinded by Satan, the “god of this world”, gone over to the “Dark Side” and joined The ALLIANCE!
Can’t argue with you. And the women are always 85 pounds and in heels!
Yeah, right.
I still watch most of the sci-fi, although not always all the way thru.
Have you seen Luke Cage? I really liked it. Also liked Jessica Jones, who never wears heels.
Loved Firefly. Won’t spend another dime on Joss’s productions.
I’ve seen a couple of episodes of Luke cage. They just shot the barber. I’ll probably watch more.
I enjoyed Jessica Jones, even though it fits in with the girl power thing pervading all media now. She’s a great flawed person and the show did not fall into the girl power crap that makes me cringe.
Plus she lists “day drinking” as a superpower.
It should not.
Leftists are clueless:
Harry Potter and Hunger Games both appear at times to understand specific aspects of conservatism and liberty, but the authors are flaming leftists.
They project - continually and universally.
I loved The Hunger Games books - and I knew before the fact that the woman would turn out to be a major lefty.
He’d probably call me a brown coat sob.
Down with Joss Whedon and his Soros funded global ALLIANCE!
Whedon says Mal is a dyed in the wool Libertarian, anti-government type....opposite of himself. Can’t find the exact quote.
