As to the perceived confusion of Joss Whedon's loyalties with regard to the Browncoats:

- He conceived of and created the Alliance
- The Browncoats are written as rebels and outlaws/criminals
- If you side with the "outlaws", that's on you. There is no evidence that Whedon does. After all, he treats them horribly, subjects them to great cruelty, and kills off a couple of our favorite characters at the end of the Serenity movie.
- In Serenity, the Reavers (monsters) are created accidently by the Alliance when their chemical "programming" initiative goes awry and the Reavers become uncontrollable. Rather like Freepers, who occasionally, also eat their own dead. :D
- The Assange/Wikileaks/Breitbart character, Mr. Universe, is also killed, not by the monsters, but by the main antagonist.
