I overheard two men talking and the one man was a ‘journalist’ and he said that when a ‘news outlet’ reports something, they have 14 days to take it back and say it was a misprint or something to that affect...

So what I am going to do is go back on all the ‘re takes’ and count the days and see if this is true...

Apparently if they don’t do this in the 14 day period, they can be sued...interesting isn’t it...

Whoever you overheard is full of baloney, and you'd be wasting your time.

If a news outlet reports an outright lie, they're under no obligation whatsoever to retract it, unless it can be shown that the story contains evidence of "actual malice," a very high standard. If it does, they're liable from the moment it's printed, retraction or not.
