I get the shots in my right hand,at the joint at the base of my thumb.I have zero cartilage left in that joint-it’s bone on bone.I get complete relief that lasts about 4 months. No apparent side effects either.

Cortisone blended with testosterone Is the ticket. One doesn’t do much good without the other...

You might look into 'whole body vibration'. I have been using it to increase bone density, but it can also be helpful for joint pain & while I don't have arthritis, it is also used for that purpose. It doesn't take long to see results. My doctor was skeptical, but called me after my first bone density test and was actually giddy when she advised me to keep using it.

It has also helped with my Morton's Neuroma (a terrible pain in the feet, usually from wearing heels).

I tore up both my Rotator Cuffs. Right I can live with, but looks like I may need the surgery for the left. I was a pro guitar player, but can’t play anymore, and at 70??????........

Do not take cortisone if you can help it. Precursor to cancer. Believe me or not; do your homework on it.

Go natural; start with cayenne pepper in pill form, etc.

Those are the side effects I had read about. I think I will take my chances because the pain has been ongoing for over two years.

Nothing ever stays the same. Everytime you have a new affliction in your advancing years, you should think that it opens up a different world to you and one that should bring you closer to God. The older we get, the more we realize that we depend on Him more and more each day. I am sure that many in this forum have had cancer, heart disease and many other horrifying diseases, as I have, yet realize that God still has a plan for us. Or else we wouldn’t still be here. Life is about choices. When we are young, we have many. The older we get, we have fewer and fewer, until our last day we have none. Best to make the best choices while we have them.

I used to receive cortisone shots in my shoulder for arthritis and a couple other things. Most of the time it worked, occasionally it didn’t. There’s also a painkiller in the shot, so I’d get relief pretty quick if...if...the doc hit the correct spot. Sometimes he missed. He’d only give me the shot every three months. He explained that cortisone could be corrosive to the joint.

Have you tried a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement? My knee started hurting about 8 years ago and it felt like a throbbing toothache. Someone told me to try it and after a couple of days it stopped hurting and hasn’t bothered me since. I have now switched from a drink to a little pill called Move Free. My hands use to hurt too and I don’t have that problem any more. It may be worth a try.

If no one posted while drinking, this board would be awfully quiet.

I suspect I have a bulging disk in my upper back. I have horrible pain and can’t turn my head. This happens about 5 times a year. I go to the local ‘doc in the box’ and get a sterois injection as well as a muscle relaxant. Just got these a week ago because, on the same day I froze, I had to play for a funeral. The ‘roids are fine short-term.....but I wouldn’t advise long-term. Can cause bad side-effects.

shots may or may not help temporarily.

tight muscles can be causing some or much of the discomfort. Even if you have actual arthritis the muscles in the area and surrounding areas start getting tight prior to arthritis or as protection and as you feel pain you adjust what you do (compensate) so it snowballs into more tight muscles as we get older unless we do things to release the muscle tightness and to maintain or improve our flexibility and range of motion.

you can use tennis balls or your knuckles or cold packs to release tight muscles and pain in low back, gluteal area, ITBand (upper leg near the big ball joint)

here is link to pictures of the muscles that cause hip pain.
https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=triggerpoint+pattern+hip&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

you can FRmail me if you have questions. I’d be happy to explain more.

Cortisone shot they do with Xray to make sure they get the right spot. Didn’t help my hip at all so I got it replaced. Went really well, and without it I couldn’t walk 100 yards. Don’t wait if you have severe pain. You’ll start walking funny and that screws up other things.

Think back a few generations. Getting old then was a lot worse. I’d be dead or a cripple at my age in the “good old days”.

Iron in the synovial fluids causes arthritis. Lactoferrin is the best iron chelator to remove the iron.
