Funny deal is I have a Ruger Scout and I
Hit accurately with it’s 16.5 barrel.
Love That one!
I will dust off that Springfield,
Thanks.

16.5 in barrel limits the Scout to about 2000-2150fps with standard NATO 7.62x51 mm.

Truly effective range is only about 200yds, though you could stretch to 400yds if you shoot 6 feet high. Or 8.

The M1A with 20 or 22in barrel will have much greater range and accuracy over 200yds if you find which round rings with your barrel.

Try a broad mix of these (weight is all that’s important when tuning) then invest in what works perfectly.

140, 145, 150, 165, 168 etc.

And with an M1A you have a patriotic duty to stock at least 1,000 rounds of what works with your rifle.

For you or your posterity...or neighbor.

It would be perfect if it liked standard issue military ammo. But that’s not always the case.

My dad carried 3 different M-1 Garands in Korea. He told me one was dead-on accurate. One was all over the place and the other was just barely OK.

And that was all about barrel resonance with a given bullet.
