SIERRA VISTA The big top will be going up in Tombstone and Huachuca City on Wednesday and Thursday when a circus rolls into both communities.
The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus promises to thrill audiences with big cats, contortionists, trapeze artists and breath-taking acrobatic acts, delivering entertaining, fun performances.
Featuring two back-toback shows, the circus will be in Tombstone on Wednesday and Huachuca City on Thursday.
In Tombstone, the big top will be set up in the lower parking lot along Sixth Street, while the Huachuca City location will be Keeline Park in upper Huachuca City.
The 90-minute performances are at 5 and 7:30 p.m. in both locations.
Along with the shows, the public is invited to come out to the locations at 9:30 a.m. to watch the raising of the big top and take a free tour of the circus grounds.
Bob Nielsen, who is the Tombstone Lions Club president-elect, said the event is being sponsored by the Lions Club as fun activity to help bring the community together. We thought this would be a great first step in a number of other community-projects we want to see in Tombstone, he said. The Lions Club will receive a percentage of the events ticket sales.
Its been a long time since there has been a circus in town, and the community is very excited about this, said Nielsen.
In Huachuca City, the towns parks and recreation department will benefit from the event.
Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens 65 and older and children age 2 to 12. Prices go up to $13 for adults and $8 for seniors and children on the day of the event. Children 2 and younger are admitted free.
