ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII)-- The hope of anywhere from 4-7,000 new jobs, and economic growth, follows a certification given to a Texoma Industrial park.
The Ardmore Airpark is 1,700 acres of land, with the potential to house 5,000,000 square-feet of development, and create 4-7,000 jobs.
And now its certified by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, which uses nine different metrics to grade and certify land. There's only 10 certified sites in the whole country.
"It's a big deal for Southern Oklahoma, its a big deal for Ardmore, and its a game changer." Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin said.
B.N.S.F looks at sites with certain prerequisites, such as ecological surveys. Location is a factor too. The Industrial park has a railway, highway and RUNWAY.
"The infastructure is in place, its a business friendly place, so what it does is overcome a lot of the obstacles and quote, homework, that site selectors have to do." Ardmore Development Authority Mita Bates said.
And with B.N.S.F behind them, the Ardmore Development Authority and Fallin hope THIS will spur on economic growth, and attract factory or transportation jobs that could move in anytime.
"It gives us new opportunity to attract businesses," Fallin said. "And even today, we had people here from out of state, from the East Coast, some companies from China that are already looking at Ardmore and this part of the state."
Wouldn’t be a bad site for intermodal container traffic from the gulf ports.
OK is prime tornado alley territory.
It’s the curse of the Indians, they will have their revenge!!/S
I know one of their certified sites is near Shelby Montana, on the Canadian border and just an hour or so east of Glacier. I’ll take that one.
Nice. For those of us wanting to move out of California or other places that are overrun with insane lefties and/or under the onerous hyper-regulation of democrat governments, it could be a good destination.
OK has republicans running the show, businesses moving in, the reputation as being a relatively low-tax state, and Ardmore has decent proximity to some sizable bodies of water and is only about 90 minutes from Dallas (for those who might want that).
Hmmm, maybe some work for my nephew who is a helicopter pilot....
and let's not forget the construction / remodelers
Isn’t that Gene Autry Airport that used to be a fair sized military base?
That should be correct. There was a fair sized air force base located just north of Ardmore that was closed down in the late fifties.
Ardmore is a great place to live. I graduated high school there.
Is Ponder’s drive in still there on main street?
I retired from the truck factory down in Denton, some of my work friends drove from there every day. And yes the money is worth it.
I don’t live in Ardmore now but I visited there last fall and Ponders, ie, the Super Dog, wasn’t there any more. It was on Hwy 77, not main street.
