The Opelika City Council voted Tuesday to enter into a project agreement with Hanwha Advanced Materials America that will create 100 full-time jobs.
The companys project involves a 120,000 square foot expansion to its existing facility at 4400 Northpark Drive in the Northeast Industrial Park and will have a capital investment of $19.8 million.
This will be the seventh expansion the company has done since it opened in 2005, according to Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller. He said the companys capital investment and number of jobs created over the 12-year span is $80 million and 400 jobs.
Council members also approved tax abatements for the company.
During the meeting, council members also approved a project agreement with Thompson Tractor and tax abatements for Pharmavite.
Thompson Tractors project will be a 12,700 square foot Caterpillar dealership and equipment yard located in the 400 block of Columbus Parkway. The capital investment will be approximately $3,500 and will create 10 full time retail and service jobs.
Pharmavites project will involve a building expansion to its existing facility at 4701 Northpark Drive. The capital investment will be $7,677,166 and 26 jobs will be created.

» Opelika High School Senior Weldrin Ford was recognized as the recipient of The Bryant-Jordan Student Athlete Achievement Award-Class 6A, Region 3.
» Opelika High School Senior RaKavius Chambers was recognized as the recipient of The NFHS Heart of Arts Award-Section 3; The Bryant-Jordan Scholar Athlete Award-Class 6A, Region 3; The Larry D. Striplin, Jr. Scholar Athlete of the Year Award and The Franklin D. Watkins Memorial Award.
» The council approved a request for a temporary street closure for a Downtown Bike Ride event on May 5.
» The council approved a request for the 2017 Run to Read on Oct. 21.
» The council approved a resolution to allow the Mayor to designate city personal property as surplus and authorize disposal.
» The council approved the purchase of a 2017 Peterbilt Model 520 Chassis.
» The council approved the purchase of a 2018 Pac-Mac Knuckleboom.
» The council approved a resolution to transfer a recycling trailer to surplus and donate it to Lee County Commission.
» The council approved a request to vacate a portion of Scott Circle.
» The council approved the re-appointment of Phil Adams to the Public Parks and Recreation Board.
