Author and conservationist Kuki Gallmann, whose memoir I Dreamed of Africa was turned into a Hollywood film starring Kim Basinger, has been shot by raiders at her ranch in Kenya.
The 73-year-old is reported to have suffered extensive internal injuries and is in a stable, but critical condition.

Two things:
It is stupid to burn Ivory. It should be sold by the Kenyan Govt to legitimate jewelers and crafts people with the money raised being used to finance animal preservation and related environmental care.
Secondly, who are the cattle rustlers and invaders? What tribe? Kikuyu, Luo, Obama’s relatives? Tribal rivalries have always been around and bloody but this looks like a coming civil war if the raiding isn’t stopped on a large scale.
Must be “teens” and “youths”.
Hunting “used” to pay for their protection and preservation. With the ban on hunting elephants set to go into effect, this income will dry up and they’ll be gone by 2025.
Tourism is the big money maker now which is why the Park Rangers are so important. At least they kill the invaders and poachers.
