What kind of recoil do you get from that load?

More than enough. Probably equivalent to a 10 gauge 3 1/2" 1.5 ounce load.

It’s the kind of recoil is kind of like stages of grief:

1. Pain. Immediate and intense pain
2. Anger. Swearing, lots of it. Some stuff so bad, even cable TV wouldn’t have it.
3. Bewilderment, as you have no idea where the shot went because you’re so focused on #1 and #2.
4. Expressions of hatred towards the slugs & the 12 gauge, promises to self not to every shoot it again.
5. Hysterical laughter as you finally get a good look at the target completely obliterated.
6. Healing, as you watch your idiot friends take a turn at the MOAB-in-a-Mossberg.
7. Acceptance as you have finally popped your shoulder back into the socket, and search your range bag for another one of the sluginators.

I know I’m comparing apples to oranges here - that is using an incorrect comparison, but I shoot 600 grain bullets out of a 58 cal BP gun using 120 grains of 2F. It’s not traveling anywhere near the speed the 12 gauge is.

My point is after 3 or 4 shots the prettiest bruise develops on my shoulder. It has red, green and blue colors radiating out in a circle about 5 inches in diameter. And is quite tender for several days.

With that shotgun, I’m guessing some recoil protection is used.

The recoil is spread over a larger area (the entire butt of the stock against as much shoulder as it is in contact with), and the recoil is spread over a longer time (the entire time that the slug is accelerating in the barrel, plus a little more). As a result, the recoil would be memorable but probably not incapacitating . . . if the shotgun is mounted firmly against the shoulder.

No, thank you. I can fire a 3” buckshot from my Remington 870 many times without bruising, but going beyond that seems like overkill.
