There will be accidents, claims and lawsuits like we've never seen before in this country. Our courts will become hopelessly clogged.....and the country's lawyers will become hopelessly rich.

I have looked into my crystal ball, and see enormous decreases in insurance, as accident numbers plummet and costs for repairs decreases enormously.
Quality of life soars as time spent in traffic is used productively for work, business or pleasure as the sheer boredom and drudgery of driving gives way to productive uses of the time wasted behind the wheel.

Say you get nicked by a driverless. Dear Lord, the deep pocket isn’t any driver, it is Google who invented the software. Sue til their eyes bleed.

It’ll probably just take a few high profile lawsuits for carmakers to figure out that having a driver shields them.

50 DEFECTS
There are 50 defects of just one driverless gadget mounted on a vehicle. These products destroy tires, alignments, and eventually lives.
This is big tobacco lawsuits all over again. Eventually the Congress will grant computer cars special privileges and immunities from their carnage, that we humans do not get.
The number of accidents should decrease. And by their nature, driverless cars will have 360 degree video. This is not sky net nor Westworld. They are not going to go crazy and start going all over the place.
Just so nobody misses it:
I was wrong.
I said they were on the road for decades. That is not correct. The Urban Challenge by DARPA was in 2007, not 2006. Google had its fleet going in 2009. So it has only been about a decade for urban driving since it started. There has been a small fleet of cars in California since 2009, less than that in Nevada, and less than a year in Arizona. There are some small fleets overseas as well.
My error.
Agreed. I think the looming lawsuits when something goes wrong will be huge.
I think you are wrong. I think accidents will actually decrease with driverless cars. As any cop will tell you, 99 percent of all accidents are caused by human error. Besides, driverless cars don’t have egos or tempers. They don’t take it personal if they are cut off or honked at. They will slow down and make adjustments. Humans drive aggressively. Driverless cars will drive submissively.
