Agreed.

I'm also thinking that the 2 Capitol police officers who (eventually) returned fire were able to keep the assailant's attention enough to prevent him being able to take many carefully aimed shots.

In other words, once the assailant was aware of the officers' presence, his instinct for self-preservation probably kept him from nonchalantly waltzing around and killing GOP Congressmen at his leisure.

I would speculate that in the 2-on-1 situation that emerged, at least one officer—if not both—tried to flank the attacker, while the other may have "kept him busy" with covering fire.

In any event, I'd very much like to read the account of the officers "taking the perp out", as it probably makes for a very interesting tactical case study. Two (trained) individuals armed with handguns were able to neutralize an (effectively untrained) attacker armed with an AR-15 (or some such) and many dozens of rounds. Well done on the part of the officers, for sure...
