Today it is millions of hungry people, in New York alone. Next week we will read about the epidemic of obesity sweeping the nation.
There's already a solution to that in the Leftist toolbox:
You shouldn't speak of "hunger," but rather of "malnutrition" (the meaning of which could conceivably be conveniently expanded to encompass both obesity and starvation). Just like you shouldn't reference "Global Warming," but rather "Climate Change" (so that any weather anomaly can be regarded as a politically actionable occurrence).
