I wasn’t on Tank Hill, that I can remember. 1979 was an experiment, but I don’t know if it was continued. Our Platoon did great - very few wash-outs that I remember. Loved my DIs; really awesome, heroic, skilled, professional men - many recently back from Vietnam. I learned a LOT from them.
I don’t really have any ‘favorite’ military movies. I like mysteries, James Bond-type action films or westerns. I’m more of a reader; anything set during WWII will always grab my attention. :)

Were you in a dorm-style building or Quonset hut? Same here (your sentiment about DIs). I’ve never forgotten some of the sayings from my DIs. You see Saving Private Ryan? It’s widely recognized as very accurately depicting combat scenes (especially the landing at Omaha Beach).
