One might say God doesn’t ask for anybody’s participation in moral matters. And one would be QUITE wrong.
I would hope I hate the same things God does.
Jefress was no doubt referring to Romans 13:
3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; 4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
Yup... Snap judgments have a way of coming unfastened.
Let God love Kim jong-il. Love him clear off the face of the earth, so he can do no more harm.
True, but God is also a good “planner”...no need for mass casualties when a heart attack, stroke, etc. will suffice.
I sure don’t feel good about a pastor saying that it’s okay to wipe someone from the face of the earth. The thing all of us have to remember is: God loves Kim Jong Un AND the people of North Korea just as much as He loves someone in the deepest-red conservative parts of the US.
It may be true that it’s time for Kim to go, but it’s God that holds times and purposes in His hands.
Submission to the Authorities
Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Rom 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
Rom 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
Rom 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
We don’t know the larger moral need. Maybe the South Koreans need a lesson in courage. Once they step up to the plate, the Lord might make it easier for them than they feared. But they may need to step up. We will mow down your evil regime. Gangnam-buster style.
What he is saying is scripturally correct. And everything that happens on this planet has everything to do with God.
Remember that Jesus told Pilate that he would have no authority at all if it were not given to him by God.
That principle is still operative.
Kim’s soul matters more than his body. What if every measure taken to restrain him on earth fails? Now what? We don’t want to stand around saying kumbaya please don’t hurt the world Mr. Kim. We act.
Ms King obviously has not read Isaiah. Or the Psalms. Or Revelation.
Agreed. This sounds arrogant.
Arrogant of Kim that is.
Obedient to God for us. Is God only a kumbaya God? Does He have no right to tell us to stop the adamantly evil?
IMHO, Red China is who we should be pressuring. They won’t want to take a trade or financial hit of the US deciding that, since they will not leash or eliminate their mad dog, Kim, we will cease trade with them and tax the crap out of companies that do business with the Reds. When the Chinese feel their pocketboots threatened, they’ll know what to do.
Some hands on experience.
So now you are in the lofty position to be questioning Paul’s letter to the Romans as to what he was taught by the Son of God, personally? Those people?
“so much for confessional confidentiality”
Huh? Jeffress is doing no more than preaching a sermon, commenting on facts that all of us know already. Nothing “confessional” about it. And Baptists don’t “do” confessions to a pastor — only to God.
“It may be true that its time for Kim to go, but its God that holds times and purposes in His hands.”
And God could carry out His will using the American military.
Yes. Those people.
13 Every person must obey the leaders of the land. There is no power given but from God, and all leaders are allowed by God. 2 The person who does not obey the leaders of the land is working against what God has done. Anyone who does that will be punished.
Perhaps those who try to take Trump down should familiarize themselves with all of Romans 13.....
I miss reading her essays - didn't often agree with her on most issues, but she was a hoot to read.
