As we've previously noted, there are more than 16,000 nonprofits in the United States with the word "veteran" in its title. One would think with so many, there wouldn't be so many needy veterans, especially in states where politicians have repeatedly assured the public there aren't any homeless vets on the street.
Again, there is a constant when it comes to any nonprofit, but especially those that claim to be helping veterans: keep the mission vague and goal literally unattainable. That way there is no gauge for real success that ever has to be achieved.

Because they never did. I’m a 100% disabled veteran who was a veteran’s rep. at the unemployment office for 20 years. Never seen or received any assistance from any of these groups. Tried to get Meals-On-Wheels last year and got blown off, supposedly because we weren’t “old enough” vs. their typical client.
Off road riders for veterans. A charity that raises money for tracked mobility chairs. They run 15 grand. Took 3 events but finally enough money to buy a chair. Next, find a worthy recipient for this free chair! Veterans affairs refused to help. So finding a person became a difficult job.

Several years ago I donated a rather signficant amount [for me] to a group supposedly to help returning injured vets get laptop computers. That group turned into professional fund-raisers and was sending nearly-weekly requests for donations.
Their materials were costly to produce and deliver. A few months of their give-me materials cost more than the meager donation I made.
I asked them to remove me from their list. It took 2 different requests and a couple of return to senders before they quit sending me stuff.
