I strongly suspect that is the case. The guy has been suicidal before, reportedly, and now in the current environment acts to try to force the cops to shoot him??? I'd say it looks like a set-up to become a martyr to "The Movement" .... especially considering the guy was a leading campus activist for gay issues.
