I have both.
Neither. They are a compromise, just like every other firearm in existence.
Indispensible for roulette.
I finally put my .38spc for carry on the shelf for a .380 pocket gun. It’s just so much easier to carry. That’s the only downside to revolvers is their weight. You can get a Ruger LCR but they are pretty awful to shoot.
For self defense, a semi is suits me even if it requires more TLC. For fun a .357 is tops. I always look forward to using it and my wife and kids always prefer it to.
The answer is have some of both.
I love them both.
The good news is, you probably won't end up in an actual gun fight and a 5 or 6 shot snub nosed revolver will be perfectly adequate for going to the grocery store or running your errands. probably.
But I still find 10-15 rounds much more comforting than 5 or 6. because I squared off with 3 guys one day and know what it feels like to have not brought enough gun.
I think a revolver is perfect for those who aren’t “gun guys” (or gals) and will never spend any time on the range or clean their gun. They will still be reliable. Semis are fine and perhaps preferable for those who will shoot it regularly and keep it clean.
They are both useful.
Those new fanged autos will not catch on at least for older shooters. You have to stoop over to pick up the brass. They can not handle the large shells like 460 and such.
I like both.
If a revolver misfires you pull the trigger again and you get a whole new chamber and round. Perfect when your adrenalin is running high.
What’s obsolete about that?
For speed and accuracy, consider this: Jerry Miculek runs a revolver against full on race guns... And wins.
Use the right tool for the job.
My J Frame goes every where with me!
Ask Dirty Harry...
A Howdah... as in, " How dah hell you 'spect yo momma to clean up dat mess dat wuz you?"
My 1st pistol for ccw was a Glock because it was the closest thing I could get to a revolver with more ammo. No safeties (Gaston is full of it), no decockers, no levers, just point and click.
The day I can’t do it with 6 rounds it’s time for Darwin or Fate to take me.
I bought a .22 Heritage Single action revolver for safety issues.
1) I leave the chamber under the hammer empty so it can’t possibly fire if I drop it. I’m old fashioned.
2) To fire it I have to make three movements. I have to take it off safety. I have to cock the hammer. Then I have to pull the trigger. To do all that means I have definitely made the decision to shoot somebody.
And I’m pretty fast at it. And I know, the other guy has probably already shot me. But not if he doesn’t know that I know he’s there AND he doesn’t know I’m armed. The most probable scenario where I would use it would be when somebody enters my home at night. I didn’t buy it to meet a thug at high noon in front if the saloon.
I’ll still carry mine, thanks.
I’ll go with the accuracy (AND POWER .357 HP)
