Sixt to Create 300 Jobs at New Florida Headquarters

Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced that Sixt North America has selected Fort Lauderdale as the location for its new expanded North American headquarters. The expansion will create 300 new jobs and invest $10.4 million in the local community.

Sixt chose Fort Lauderdale over other potential sites in Georgia, Texas and California. It has more than 2,000 locations in over 100 countries.

“I am proud to announce that Sixt North America has selected Florida over Georgia, Texas, and California for their new and expanded North American headquarters,” said Scott. “This expansion will create 300 new jobs for families in South Florida and is a major win for our state. Over the past six and a half years, we have worked to cut taxes and make our state more business friendly so Florida can outcompete other locations for new opportunities. By using the newly establish Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, we will continue to encourage businesses to grow and create jobs in our state.”

“We looked at a number of locations in carefully selecting our new U.S. headquarters, and at the end of our search, Florida clearly came out on top,” said Sebastian Birkel, co-president of Sixt North America. “The state went out of its way to work with us, encouraging Sixt to plant even deeper roots here. We were extremely pleased with the process and are proud to be opening our national headquarters here in the near future.”

“We want to thank Gov. Scott for his leadership in this process,” said Daniel Florence, co-president of Sixt North America. “He deserves great credit for the numerous jobs that will be brought to this state as a result of our being here and growing here. Sixt is expanding rapidly all over the U.S. in major markets as fast as we can to meet surging customer demand, and as we do so, what we are doing here in Florida will remain the foundation of how we approach our business around the country.”

“We are proud that Sixt is dramatically expanding and investing in its North America headquarters,” said Jack Seiler, mayor of Fort Lauderdale “Fort Lauderdale’s strategic location, robust business climate, and outstanding quality of life all make our city the perfect place for Sixt to grow and prosper. We wish the company continued growth and success.”

I guess Sixt is a car rental company.

That’d be my guess. I’ve never rented a car in my life.

“I guess Sixt is a car rental company”

I looked it up. It is. A sign of the times that the article was concerned only with jobs, not what the company does.

I’ve rented from Sixt many times.

They’re a great company if you want to get a car quickly and aren’t picky about the specific car. Never long lines in the terminals and their rental clerks are very fast. I’ve seen Avis and Budget lines going out the door, with horrible times at the counter (1/2 hour per person). With Sixt I’ve never spent more than 5 minutes from Hello to go get yer car!

I did see one customer who was furious he was getting a different SUV than the one he thought he was getting. He wanted a Toyota RAV4 but they only had Chevy Equinox’s and Ford Escapes left in the SUV class. Sixt has fine print under the automobile picture on their web site that says:

...Or equivalent.

I thought the Equinox they gave me was a fine automobile.

That's pretty amazing. I assume you are at least close to middle age based on the amount of time you've been here. Do you travel at all? If so, how do you get around when you get there?

5 minutes in line (tolerable) or 5 minutes at the counter (way too long)?

Yes, that struck me as odd also.

I’m guessing, without any sarcasm or nastiness intended, that “North American headquarters” means a place where employees who speak American English, and/or Canadian English, and/or Spanish, and/or Quebecois would be readily available for hire. The Quebecers could be “imported” or work out of a satellite hdqtrs, but the other language-speakers would be found in Broward county, though they could also have been found in either the Tampa or Orlando areas.

A sign of the times that the article was concerned only with jobs, not what the company does.

That's what the politicians prefer - hundreds of jobs from a "job creator" that gets tax breaks and legal waivers in return for making big political contributions rather than thousands of jobs from new small businesses whose owners can't be bothered sucking up to them. :)

I fly to LA and Seattle a lot. The worse is LAX, both Avis and Budget. 1/2 hour at the counter for most people. Sixt is 5 minutes. Not way-to-long in comparison. I’ve since signed up with preferred Avis. Still, every time I’m on a full Avis bus from the terminals, 90 % of the people get off at preferred. However, the regular Avis building, which is another stop, always has a line going out the door! I always get into LAX in the late afternoon. Maybe that’s why.

Seattle is better, the lines are always short for Sixt. Often I’m first in line, meaning no line.

I don’t know why some people seem to have an issue at the counter. I think their credit cards get declined, or there’s an issue with the drivers license. Lots of folks in LAX who are holding up the line because they are taking too long at the counter look like meth heads, drug dealers, pimps, ho’s and illegal aliens to me. Not a bigoted comment! I’ve included all races!
