We should concentrate on the Moon. And then send launch vehicles from there.
If NASA does it we’ll return to the moon three administrations from now.
I had expected that by now we would have Old Folks Homes on the Moon where hip fractures would be virtually eliminated and where I could trade my roller skates for actual wings (big Heinlein fan).
Anytime we leave this environment that we were incubated in, the chances are that someone will die.
Just like when we explore in the depths of the waters of Earth.
Our bodies were developed to occupy and thrive in a very narrow slice of the universe. Outside of that, it is a joust with death.
Accept the rules of the game. GAME ON!
What???!!! No more “moozlum outreach” or some such BS??? Impeach now!
Knowing that the shuttle fleet was kept alive by cannibalizing old computers and medical equipment for circuitry from the 1980s means that we need to take those learnings and build a new type of spacecraft that can leverage today's powerful desktop computing.
Materials are stronger today, electronics are smaller today, metals are more conductive today, computers are faster today, devices are more mobile today, batteries last longer today, components are more plug and play today...
I'd like to see a space program that aims not to go to Mars, but to take space travel technology from a 21st century moon mission and apply it to advances in global commercial travel.

Never be able to fund both Space X (private commercial) and NASA (govt funded) programs. Seems like a waste.
Free trips to the moon for all demonrats.
That’s to the moon. A return trip would cost $100 million of their personal money to be deposited into the US Treasury.
