Churchill was rejected after the war was done. Didn’t need him anymore. He musta been hated every step of the way but reluctantly accepted. On a smaller level it’s the same with Bush 41 after Kuwait. The people will never recognize the skill with witch he conducted the war and the diplomacy leading up to it. Same with managing Soviet nukes after the Berlin wall fell. They didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Remember the protests that came with Pershing missiles under Reagan? Turned out he did the right thing. A wartime leader may just be unnecessary in peacetime. The moral: No good deed goes unpunished.

Bush 41? I wouldn’t be so quick to compare him to anybody actually great in history however large or small. He was a 1 term president who got elected and then squandered the good will of the American Voter.

His quote “No new taxes” will be remember in history for the next 200 years. Compare this to Churchill’s “We shall fight them in ....”.

The only thing that links the two together is both marked the decline of their respective nations.

No, brush up on your history. He was rejected BEFORE the war was done.

The election was held July 5, 1945 (it took almost the entire month to finalize the count, but the voters rejected him at the beginning of July.)

At the time, it was contemplated that the war in the Pacific - Asia theaters would continue for an extended time, with the British working on Operation Zipper, and the Americans Operations Olympic and Coronet with a projected final victory in 1947.
