Just in case you are feeling sorry for yourself today. You may have good reason, but imagine: Imagine you had to flee your family, your country (Iraq) for fear of your life. Your own family threatened to take your life for becoming a Christian. Imagine you had to leave everything of value and go to one country, then another and finally be settled in the United States. Imagine you had a degree in your own country but it has no value in the US. Imagine you need to go to college but are unqualified for financial aid because you already have a degree (which has no value here!) So you work 80-90 hours a week at two jobs. You walk around like a zombie because you are so tired. You have no time for anything, not church, not friendships, not even for simple conversations at work. During your lunch break you go out to your car and sleep for that short half hour. Every expense is a major blow to your plans to save enough money to begin your college studies. Stop imagining. This young lady lives with my wife, Karen and me and it is so hard to watch. Her Christian brothers and sisters are the only family she has. (She is legally here)
I know people like that here too. Talking with one engineer, I realized his standards are nowhere near Alberta’s. So he’s working doing the same thing as these ladies. At least nobody here is trying to do him in yet.
Sometimes a fresh start is rough, but God willing they will persevere and succeed. It’s a testament to their character that they’re hard at it.
I was told many years ago, when I was feeling sorry for myself, told that He doesn’t give you more than He knows you can handle.

I love stories about hard working go getters who come here looking for something better. She has the American spirit flowing through her.
My parents left communist Cuba in 1966. He was 57 and his law degree was useless here. I was 7 and the oldest of three boys. I don’t have to imagine, I lived it.
His first job was at 7-11. His focus was our freedom and his strength was our Heavenly Father.
Someone told me once that the only prayer that really matters is asking God for His strength. Prayers up for your friend.
Nope, youngest child is graduating high school today.
If my degree was worthless here it would not bother me to fail to mention any aspect of my prior education that this govt is going to deem moot.
Her having a worthless degree anywhere else should not be used against her here. I went to the school of hard knocks so Im out of my element here.
