Trail Life Catholics Get Their Bishops

Three amazing bishops have joined Catholic Trailmen and Traildads (is that a word?) to ensure a future for Catholic outdoor adventure.  With joy and gratitude Trail Life can announce that the Most Reverend James D. Conley, Bishop of Lincoln (Nebraska); the Most Reverend David Kagan, Bishop of Bismarck (North Dakota); and the Most Reverend Michael J. Sheridan, Bishop of Colorado Springs (Colorado), have agreed to join our new Episcopal Advisory Board and to offer their counsel to the National Catholic Committee for Trail Life.

Bishop Conley is a wonderful, rock solid bishop known for his dynamic orthodoxy and willingness to unabashedly stand up for Christ.  His diocese is known for this vocations boom!  Two interesting facts about Bishop Conley.  He is a convert to the Faith.  Also he was arrested with Operation Rescue in the pro-life movement’s early era.  No wonder he loves Trail Life's mission!

Bishop Kagan, is another bold shephard of a diocese doing great things.  He recently made news by ourageously reminding his flock that "intrinsically evil actions, such as abortion and euthanasia, 'must always be rejected and opposed,' and that issues that do not directly affect the life and dignity of people are secondary to these.  Despite demands from liberal, pro-abortion politicians for him to retract his letter he refused, “It does a great disservice to other Catholics, and to those who are not Catholic, if we create one of those artificial divisions between what I believe as a Catholic and what I do as a Catholic.”

Bishop Sheridan is the third member to Trail Life's Episcopal Advisory Board, and yet another bishop who seems to have solved the vocation crisis in his diocese.  As one of the leading proponents of religious freedom in the nation, he has faced relentless attacks from those who would force Catholics to chose between their Faith and the means to support their family.

Trail Life has also made "official" the two Catholic chaplains, Father Shenan Boquet, president of Human Life International, and, Father Ed Horkan, pastor of Our Lady of the Valley parish in Luray, Virginia.  Come Holy Spirit!

This is essential for the Catholic Cultural Renewal (against the John Dewey gutting of the Western Tradition). Look at www.kofc15693.org for “John Senior’s 1,000 GOOD Books” (not to deprecated the Great Books). The first speaker notes that, even prior to the Great Books and the 1,000 Good Books, it is necessary that young people be exposed to the First Book of nature (God’s creation). Note the rise of secular “outdoors” or “forest” kindergarten (look it up).

You-all should be getting another great Bishop, Archbishop Alexander K. Sample. (Surely he needs to go camping.)

He is our bishop! Praise the Lord. I don’t know how to go about getting him on the board, but I do know some folks on the Catholic Committee for TLUSA.

Great idea!

Yes! We homeschool and have the house full of books from John Senior’s list.

Perhaps your Council can sponsor a Trail Life Troop in your parish?!
