.50 BMG vs Traffic Light Pole
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 6/7/2018 | E Sarkissian

Are traffic light pole bulletproof?
Its one of those gee whiz question for the gun buff who’s just sitting around figuring out what to plink at.

Youtuber Edwin Sarkissian has the answer, as always he goes through an array of calibers to see if the traffic light pole is bulletproof. Here are the calibers that Edwin uses:
-.22LR – no effect
-9mm FMJ – no effect
-Desert Eagle 50AE – penetrate the first surface leaving a dent
-500 Smith&Wesson/Extreme Penetrator – penetrated the front surface but not through the second skin
-5.56 – Only penetrated the frontend but not through the back
-AK47 7.62×39 – penetrated the frontend but not through the back
-.50 BMG – went right through both surface

Don't take our word for it, take a look at the footage of .50 bmg vs traffic light pole here.

Big deal. I once cut down a tree with a .357 magnum.

We were on private land with about a mile of forest behind the target. I hit the target then saw a 3” diameter tree falling down about 50 ft past the target.

Must have hit a weak spot or something.

A more fun video would be if surveillance cams are bulletproof.

Jean Shepherd, on his short lived TV show, once did a whole show on "the deer people". He showed pictures of deer crossing signs with bullet holes in them. How did the the bullet holes get there? Has anyone actually seen someone shooting a deer crossing sign? What's the real story? Who are the deer people?

They broke the mold when they made Jean. RIP.

Deer people ride unicorns and they use yetis as pack animals. Pointing Easter bunny’s find the signs. None of this ever happened until global warming kicked in. / s

On an episode of Cops years ago, I heard an LA county deputy say that "AKs" could take down a wooden telephone pole. I really did hear it because I saw it again on a re-run of the episode. 🙀🐂💨💩

I once cut down a pine sapling with a .22. It took a while.

Two of us shot a hornet’s nest with 00 buck shot simultaneously, sure that it would pretty much wipe out the nest. The effectively disappeared. But the tree limb came down about 10’ away as well. And the hornet’s did not all die.

I became French in a flash. Dropped the shotgun and ran faster than I thought capable. Nobody got stung, but heart failure was a real risk.

In Scouting, we do what’s called a ‘Stake Break’.

You have teams of shooters, usually Patrols. You’ve got a crew of six to nine people loading.

You use black powder rifles to shoot through two by fours standing upright and nailed in place about 15 to 20 feet away, depending on the ability level and age of the shooters.

You draw a line across the width of the flat side of the two by four so they have a place to aim.

The teams get in lines behind their shooter, and they step up and shoot. First team to shoot their two by four in half wins.

The more loaders and rifles you have, the faster the lines move, obviously.

Kids love it. They think this .50 cal rifle is going to blow them back on their butts, and then they actually see for themselves how easy the recoil is. They light up. We let them examine the shot and we show them how to load it.

Cleaning those guns is actually a lot of fun too. There is so much peace in cleaning a gun after the range is shut down. Once the kids really learn how to clean the guns, I almost always just volunteer to clean them all and let them go.

You put a baseball game on the radio, some mosquito repellant on, and go to town. Out of baseball season it’s country music. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline . . .

Makes you want to go shootin’, doesn’t it?

Poor-sighted hunters shooting at a deer silhouette in their scopes?

Everything at our local shooting range is peppered. They even had to put up a stone wall back-range (behind the shooters) in front of the chemical toilets to protect goers.

What next?

Should we see what happens when you shoot at the water pipeline crossing over a road?
