I shop at grocery stores all the time when traveling, just to save on budget, but once in a while I'll find a winner.
I love grinders from Maine, but hardly anywhere else. Not sure why.
Will need to try a Pub Sub at some point.
But most all grocery stores are much better in the prepared foods department than 40 years ago.
And most grocery stores are worse in customer service than 40 years ago no matter what the ads say.
I’ll have to try one next time I’m in Alabama.
My cucumber patch is prolific this year. I’m fermenting “pickles”, enjoying cucumber soup, eating cucumber sandwiches, and cucumber laden salads...
Sorry I got off on a tangent... But what I wanted to say before the Cucumber ad lib was that Publix also has a great key lime pie. and key lime pie goes well with cucumber dishes for a nice summertime meal in the heat of it all

There is a country store and gas station in my community and when I go in there I order a sandwich from time to time. Bologna or ham, its always thick and piled with fixings and a value for its price with a bag of chips or an apple from the bushel basket and a cold drink from the cooler.
My kids love them.....you can buy premade daily or order at the counter
Boars Head mostly
Decent Poboy bread
We have a Publix about a mile away
Kroger is a poor comparison
