Several years ago, friends showed up for my birthday in Nola. We went to LaGasse’s NOLA Restaurant (the best!), Commander’s Palace, and one day bought sandwiches at Central Market and drove out to Oak Alley and all the other plantation homes on the Mississippi Delta and picknicked. How’s that for a birthday?

Did you don the white chefs hat at Commanders?

I hope you were in the glass room upstairs

I love that place....whispering now....the food is decent but not great....it’s good for certain things

When I was a kid it was baked Alaska and cherries jubilee

Turtle soup.....which they still have

Galatoires is the best for the old guard joints ....to me

And I like Antoines for brunch

My go to joint has always been Mandinas out Canal st

It’s part local part touristy

The Fitzgerald’s on Ponchatrian was another cool spot but Katrina got her

Man for its size New Orleans has so many good places...everywhere

Best Po Boys

Johnny’s
Parasol
Guys
Killers

There’s more....

Gumbo.....that joint in the quarter is good ....I prefer a dark nutty roux although creole purist don’t take it as dark as I do

Anyhow good for you....I’m hungry now
