Several years ago, friends showed up for my birthday in Nola. We went to LaGasse’s NOLA Restaurant (the best!), Commander’s Palace, and one day bought sandwiches at Central Market and drove out to Oak Alley and all the other plantation homes on the Mississippi Delta and picknicked. How’s that for a birthday?

My go to joint has always been Mandinas out Canal st
Its part local part touristy
The Fitzgeralds on Ponchatrian was another cool spot but Katrina got her
Man for its size New Orleans has so many good places...everywhere

Gumbo.....that joint in the quarter is good ....I prefer a dark nutty roux although creole purist dont take it as dark as I do
